Susan Hedge

Connection is the beginning of everything.

Introduction

My story with education began long before I became a teacher. I was the student who struggled without understanding why, then the educator and mother trying to make sense of what I was seeing in my students, my children, and myself. When I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, so many of those pieces finally began to connect.

That diagnosis led me deeper into research and back through years of classroom experience. I began to see how little educators had been taught about ADHD, emotional regulation, and social-emotional learning. It also showed me how difficult it is to have conversations with families about something you were never trained to recognize or explain.

Today, I speak, teach, and consult on ADHD, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and connection. My work helps adults better understand how to connect with children and young adults, because that relationship changes how young people feel, communicate, and learn. When we give adults the knowledge and tools they were never given themselves, we create something better for the generations coming behind us.
